MREnkerBooks Joins the 77th Frankfurter Buchmesse: Celebrating Filipino Stories

Today at the Frankfurter Buchmesse Opening Ceremonies, “Filipino literature belongs to the world,” Senator Loren Legarda declared and from the bamboo-and-piña Pavilion designed as a walkable archipelago, to the vibrant “Jeepney Journey” stage at Rossmarkt square, the message is clear:We’re not just telling stories. We’re bringing our world to yours.

Inspired by José Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, completed in Germany in 1887, this moment is both a return and a renewal, a reminder that Philippine literature has long been part of global history, and it’s here to shape its future.

Don’t blink. The jeepney is rolling through Europe. And it’s bringing tales that matter.

MrEnkerBooks is proud to announce its participation in this year’s Frankfurter Buchmesse, the world’s largest trade fair for books. Visitors can find their booth at Hall 5.1, A126, where the publishing house will spotlight translated works by its Filipino authors now available for German-speaking audiences.

Among the featured titles are:

Bratwurst und Batchoy, eine Liebesgeschichte (Bratwurst and Batchoy, A Love Story) by Maria Renker, a humorous and heartfelt cross-cultural romance that explores identity, food, and family.

Proxima – Im Schatten der Sonne (The Culling in Proxima) by Renato Tranquilino, a gripping sci-fi narrative that blends Filipino mythology with futuristic themes.

Auf der Jagd nach Windmühlen (Chasing Windmills) by Maya Butalid, a poignant literary fiction work about diaspora, memory, and chasing dreams across borders.

In addition to showcasing these compelling translations, MREnkerBooks will launch a new children’s title, Nick, the Little Yellow Chick, written by Mary Ann Tubola, a delightful story for young readers about courage, friendship, and finding your place in the world.

The MrEnkerBooks booth is also proud to host the Philippine Literary Circle Europe, an organization of Europe-based Filipino and Filipino-European authors, publishers, illustrators, and translators.
